Help with Issues at School

Often as parents it can be hard having those tricky conversations about our children in school, I’ve been there. You feel like you’re being over-anxious, worrying too much. However, we know our children best and we need to feel listened to. I can help with this as I’ve experienced both sides of the coin -being a teacher and now as a parent. I can help advocate for your child to ensure that their needs are being met, help reduce anxiety and give practical strategies to help.

  • Is your child struggling at school? I can offer support and give advice in terms of how to communicate with your child’s teacher and SENCO about what help your child may need in terms of reasonable adjustments, helping to write one-page profiles (explaining your child’s strengths, needs and differences).

  • Does your child mask all day at school and then explode at home? I can help you communicate this to school and also look at strategies to give the school to help.

  • I can attend meetings in school with you, either in person (within Leeds/ certain parts of Yorkshire) or online, helping to mediate if necessary so the school understands what your concerns are.

  • Help and advice with whether to go down the assessment route for diagnosis

  • Help with choosing the right school for your child. This can be tricky, especially if your child has been excluded and you’re wondering which school might best meet their needs. With my professional background as a teacher as well as my extensive knowledge of the SEN system I can help advise you through all of this.

Book a free 30-minute introductory call to discuss how I can support you, or email me to book support for a school meeting.

Calls and meetings in school offering advice and strategies are charged at £40 per hour. I am based in Leeds so travel charges will apply within Yorkshire, and if you are located elsewhere, I can join the meeting online.

Rebecca’s help was invaluable as my daughter started high school and was not coping. Whilst there had been some slight difficulties at Primary school nothing prepared us for the frequent meetings regarding our daughter’s behaviour and subsequent frequent suspensions at high school.

Rebecca provided a listening ear and sound advice. She was always calm and reassuring with a deep understanding of the education system and children with additional needs. Her help in navigating this at such a stressful time was invaluable. She accompanied me to several meetings at school with the SENCO which would have been very intimidating alone. She made suggestions to school to help their understanding of my daughter and her additional needs even producing resources school could share with all her teachers to help their understanding by clearly showing how she learned best. This helped my daughter feel understood and increased her time in school. I am incredibly grateful for the bespoke advice from such a knowledgeable person at a really challenging time.”
